DPS Formulas for comparing weapons

Found this on Steel Warrior.

It looks like a pretty good forumula.

It assumes you are level 65 with all offensive AA's (Ranger)

I don't know ranger but I think at this time we don't have any unique AA's they don't have when it comes to offensive AA's. So this might be a good formula to use.

Comparison value for 2hander = (1+Haste)*(1+(0.7*Crit))*(1.038*((LR*AH*Dmg)+DB)) / (0.1*Dly)

Key:

LR = level ratio = 5.92 at 65, 5.7 at 60 (this is all he mentioned)
AH= average hit percent = .6 (that is 60%) for most. Can be adjusted if you have higher attack than normal, use of Avatar, use
DB= damage bonus
Dmg = weapon's damage rating
Dly = weapon's delay rating

So, since the Windblade vs WMBS is a popular argument (as to which is better) I'll use them for the formula.

Windblade:50/44 and 45 DB
WMBS: 31/28 and 35 DB

Formulas, at level 65, max haste (100%) and assuming 10% crits and 100% hasted:

Windblade: (1+1.0)*(1+(0.7*.10)*(1.038*((5.92*.6*50)+45)) / (0.1*44) = 112.38 DPS

WMBS: (1+1.0)*(1+(0.7*.10)*(1.038*((5.92*.6*31)+35)) / (0.1*28) = 115.12 DPS

I used Warrior and put in 100% haste, level 65, 252 skilll, and STR 305. I left accuracy and the other figures as is.

Windbladed rated 63 and WMBS 66.

Well, that is all I could dig up on Google for now, other than the formula I used of Yiktiki's on the Top 5 Dropable weapons thread.

The one I found on Steel Warrior that was posted by a ranger appears to be pretty good. It was put together from extensive parse results. I think it will offer the closest idea of what a particular weapon will do.

Using this formula, here are all the weapons I have calculated so far.

I used 7% as the crit chance. I applied a 5% DPS penalty to all piercing (weapons denoted by (P) if they had this penalty applied). This is pure speculation on my part to account for the lower skill cap we have in piercing. Proc effects were NOT considered.

think the axe was changed from 84 dmg to 81.. i'd say that puts a monk usable weapon on top beins its 57/28..

i didn't calculate dem out though. i'd hafta find me calculater fer dat stuff;x

After picking up my Epic I ran some parising software to see what my current DPS was. In BoT fighting iyvs and militia in MS my avg hit was 170 and DPS 130. That was without using my discs or any haste. Max Crit was 430 with the weapon to. This was only after about 5 fights.

So with epic.. that formula yields 115.33 dps, not counting the added accuracy comign from the Atk bonus

I have an Sk with the Greater Poleaxe of Sorrow, Great Staff of Misery, and OGB.

Maybe the attack rating for Sk being lower makes a difference but the Greatstaff was a much better weapon than the Poleaxe.

Also Greatstaff has a proc, and none on the Poleaxe.

I also prefered the GreatStaff over the OGB.

Indeed, the proc can make the difference between two closely ranked weapons. The rankings above, as well as the Top 20 list I have stickied, do not consider procs at all.

Actually, I amend that.

I did not compensate for the fact that the Greatstaff is a piercing weapon. I have now applied the 5% DPS penalty to it that I did the other piercing weapons.

It is now ranked #20
